Blog Post 48 - Director Interview and Editing

Since Travis’ is already an actor interview, my interview focused more on being a director, and my reasoning for the choices I made during its creation. My questions ended up being as followed.

-What inspired the idea for your story?

-How did you choose to represent your characters?

-Why take on the role of Charlotte?

I only ended up giving myself three questions for my interview, since I had a lot more to say than Travis did. (I had to cut out parts of my responses and mines still ended up longer than his) These questions really allowed me to explain my thought process for making my story and characters outside of my blog, and made a way for the audience to better understand how they feel and react to their environment. The last question touches on the fact that I am also an actor of my film, which gives more insight on both me as a creator, and how Charlotte is personal to me, like how Travis relates to Kylie.

I kept the same filming style as Travis’ interview, with only having it filmed in the living room (Kylie’s house), having my mom be the interviewer, and having the angled close up exchanged for a more wider view, one that shows Oreo in the back! Since theres no point in explaining that all again, lets get to editing.

While differing angles keep things interesting, there still needs to be something else going on. Thats where the sneak peeks come in. After putting the clips together, I can do an overly of one of the many clips from my short film. As long as I silence them, I can place them over the existing clip of the interview, to still have the interviewee’s answer and explanation heard while the short film snippet plays. When choosing clips to add, I made sure to keep them short, and made sure I used none from the ending scene, as not to spoil too much, and instead to just spark curiosity, as well as to provide clarity to whatever is being said.

During the intro, after the interviewee introduces themselves,  I made a little two second graphic that informs the audience on what is about to be watched, having the interviewee’s name, role in the film, as well as the Fluffles Production logo. This graphic was then used as the thumbnails for the actual Instagram posts, so my supporters could easily see what the clips were about without having to click them.

The last important part of editing was the background music. Since Project Sekai is a rhythm game thats based around vocaloid music, I wanted to find a vocaloid song to use in reference to the thing that bonded the two friends together. In the end, I chose the instrumental of the song Derivative Society Girl by SkirmishP. Derivative Society Girl is a song meant to talk about how it feels to be neurodivergent in a world that doesn’t exactly accept you. Well that matches my movie perfectly. The instrumental was used rather than the song itself in order to not distract from the interview itself, as the words could clash and make it unclear to the audience what they are supposed to be listening to. I put this as the background for both interviews, but I slowed the song down for Travis’, and speed it up for mine, since the lower energy and higher energy matches our characters. Both interviews done!
