Blog Post 36 - Mall Script

Here’s my finished mall scene script. The path that ended up winning was the home scene path! The two main reasons people voted for home over mall was because, one,  the ending conversation would have to be much less personal, making it harder for Kylie to actually talk about her identity problems, and two, a lack of cats. That sounds like a silly reason, but if the conversation scene happens at the mall, the only part featuring a cat would be the intro, where the problem is implied, but not at all touched upon in depth. It would pretty much make all the cat symbolism irrelevant in the actual film, so house it is!

Writing this took forever, and I already talked about the scenes themselves and directions in my story board post, so here I’ll just put some simple explanations on how I tried to write each girl’s dialogue

Kylie - Often panicked. Uses lots of pauses in her sentences as she tries to think of how to respond in a “correct” way.

Charlotte - Very excitable. Just a bit too loud. Needs to ask all the questions to the person she just met because PROJECT SEKAI. Pretty blunt

Emma - Trying to help and be nice to Kylie. Doesn’t really understand what’s up with her, yet tries by asking if she’s ok, why did she leave, etc.

Olivia - Knows people and knows the mall. Also confused by Kylie but really just wants to skim past it and have a good time. Invites Charlotte way too fast and then switches the topic to ice cream

Jayden - Speaks the least to Kylie specifically, but always talking with the other two. Just thinks Kylie is a bit weird.
