Now that I’ve done some research, Its time to make a mock up announcement!
As stated previously, I prefer the announcement with the symbolic objects rather than the ones with just the characters. Since this will also be the first look at my short film, the use of objects rather than characters can add sorta enigma code since it will make the audience wonder what exactly is the relevance of these things. But, what to use for the two girls?
This wasn’t a very hard decision to make. For Kylie, rather than an object, I feel like it would make more sense to use one of the cats for her, as it directly ties into her identity issues, which would in turn, place it front and center on my announcement. For Charlotte inclusion, I chose a bracelet. Specifically, one of the Project Sekai bracelets I made for Charlotte to wear. After all, I did make an entire blog post about why I decided to make them and why they would be important to her self expressions as a character, so it seemed perfect. Just like that, I’ve picked two things directly related to the girl’s identities. Now I need to figure out how to actually relate them together for the image.
Theres a few ways I thought to connect the two. Making either of my cats wear a bracelet is close to impossible, and I rather not make them upset. The closest thing I could think of is putting it on their head, but it wasn’t really doing it for me. Plus, the cats would totally flick it off before I would be able to take the photo. Maybe having the bracelet on the floor and having the cat do something around it would work?
With this new idea, I made some little mock ups of the general composition of the announcement. All mock ups feature a placement for the eventual title logo at the top, and an area in the corner for the production company. First has a cat staring down at a bracelet at their paws. It was at this moment I realized I accidentally recreated the original Into The Wild cover art (or at least the Mandela effect version). I loveeeee warrior cats. Back on topic, the Into The Wild one was looking a bit plan, so I made a similar one from a different perspective, specifically, a high angle shot behind the cat as it looks down. This one is more visually interesting.
Lastly, I made one with the cat reaching out to the bracelet from the side. This mock up shares the same general elements as the first two, with the cat watching the bracelet, but this one’s addition of the cat reaching towards it makes me think of Kylie reaching for and accepting Charlotte’s friendship, which I find really cute. I plan to shoot all variations, and then choose from there. With the help of my target audience of course!
