Blog Post 28 - Kylie's Somewhat Friends

About Kylie’s friends, let’s develop that more here! First of all, how many friends does Kylie have here? While usually I drew 2 or just phone call friend on my storyboard, on one of the last slides, you can see that made 3 little figures, which is the amount I decided to go with. 5 people in total is enough to be a good sized group, while also not having far too many people to think about. Kylie having 3 friends originally also makes it less of a “theres a duo in every trio” problem if we go lower, and more of a “oh Kylie specifically is excluded” thing.

How about names then? Since these girls are the ones that “fit in,” I thought about how I could symbolize that in their names, in which I decided to give them the recent most popular girls names. Emma and Olivia have been the top one and two for a good few years now. For the third name, I went with Jayden since its a very common name for both girls and boys. I know at least 8 Jaydens myself (which includes my own brother), so its a very common name in my head despite not being one of the first. But why didn’t I just go with the top three names? That because the 3rd most common girl name in the past few years is actually said to be Charlotte! While this was completely accidental, I do feel like it adds a bit more to the choice. Charlotte isn’t neurotypical obviously, but she feels normal. She’s comfortable in her own skin, and in that way, she matches with Kylie’s existing friends, having confidence in herself.

More about the trio, they aren’t outright trying to exclude or belittle Kylie in any way. Sure, they don’t understand everything she does, but they are still trying to be friends. Its mostly just communication errors all around, with Kylie trying to mask so hard that she can’t express herself, and the trio not knowing how to exactly connect with her properly because of this. This is the reason why Charlotte gets invited to come along with them. Kylie had ran off and is found talking to this new girl, so they assume that they’re probably actually friends and that Kylie can actually have a good time if they let Charlotte come along.

And who’s gonna play them? After working out potential actors and scheduling and such, I have three friends hired! Phone call girl, who has now been assigned the name Emma, has the most lines of the group, so I need someone with a bit more experience in film, and who’s not scared of the camera. For that, I have Rylie, who’s taken AS level media studies the year before, and has also acted in my previous project for me. Since I’ve worked with her already, and she also already understands the class and what’s expected, she’s my choice for Emma.

Rylie!

Olivia and Jayden have much smaller roles, just saying/asking things here and there and chatting in the background otherwise. For them, I have my friends Logan and Victoria respectively. They were also featured in my project last year, and you may recognize Victoria from being one of my options for Kylie. Both of them are good for short and witty remarks when needed (they do it to me and each other all the time), and Logan specifically is really good at just being confident on camera for a quip.

And thats that! These are Kylie’s friends and my remaining actors casted!
