Switching the topic real quick but it's also kinda on topic, bracelets. I made bracelets for Charlotte to wear in my short film. But why are these bracelets important?
For quite a while, I struggled with how Kylie and Charlotte were actually going to meet in order for them to become friends. I needed to find a way to make it in character for both girls, which is harder said than done since they contrast each other so much. Not having much luck, I found myself back at the survey I made at the very beginning of this project. One of the questions I asked was “How do you generally make friends?” So I knew I could get some inspiration from there.
I ended up finding two differing perspectives. About half said they wouldn’t speak up until spoken too first, and honestly doesn’t know how the friendship worked. The other half state that they end up butting into conversations, especially when a special interest or hyper fixation is mentioned, not shutting up about it, and it just ends up working out from there. Sounds like Kylie and Charlotte’s opposing personalities, huh.
This made me think of possible interests that the girls could bond over, which then made me think of interests that both me and Travis share. One of them was much clearer than the rest. Project Sekai. As a VERY brief summary, Project Sekai is a rhythm game about teenagers finding themselves through music and with the help of vocaloids. Whats a vocaloid? A voice bank with a little character attached to it that people can then use to make music. I was thinking that Charlotte could find Kylie playing the game after running off, and then absolutely going crazy about it, forcing them to bond.
How do I know this works? BECAUSE IVE DONE THIS SAME EXACT THING BEFORE!! One day, sitting in the quiet room to escape a pep rally at school, I saw a person playing Project Sekai. I then walked up to her, and proceeded to not shut up about it. We ended up rambling about the game and other shared interests the whole time and now I have one more friend.
So why bracelets? In order to add to Charlotte’s costume and self expression, I made a few bracelets that have some of the character’s names on them for her to wear. Maybe she could even end up giving one to Kylie.
