Blog Post 18 - Dress Up

Outfits are an important part of character design. They allow the audience to make assumptions about who a character is as a person by relying on stereotypes. They show a character’s preferences, level of sophistication, class, interests, and more. Here I’ll be deciding a basic outfit plan for both Kylie and Charlotte.

Since Kylie is so worried about fitting in, her outfit would reflect that. She would wear something very casual and basic, not wanting to stand out in anyway possible. Something like a T-shirt or hoodie with jeans, with no specific features to draw attention to herself. Her color pallet would be similar, using muted/desaturated colors rather than bright ones in order to seem less out there. Overall, she’d try to stand out as little as possible in order to not be judged.

As expected, Charlotte would dress the opposite. She would have no shame in dressing according to her interests and likes. One idea I like for her is wearing pins, bracelets, or other such accessories relating to a special interest, since it's something me and a few of my friends already do. Another thing Id like to give Charlotte is an emergency mini backpack. Since she knows who she is and what she can and cannot handle, Id want her to carry around a mini backpack with things she knows she may need, such as ear plugs or fidgets. Opposing Kylie again, bright colors for Charlotte to show that she feels more free, as well as providing a contrast.
