Blog Post 15 - Casting Options For Kylie

Getting closer to the actual production of the film, let’s figure out an actor that could potentially play Kylie. I have three options to choose from, so I’d like to get down what information I have currently. All three options are participants of my survey.

Firstly is Trinity. Like Kylie, Trinity is someone loves human connection. She’s always ready to make a new friend if the circumstances are right. They also share a trait of overthinking and over-explaining themselves. Many times Ive been able to fix a silly overthinking caused problem of hers with a simple solution. Its funny. Trinity also so happens to be a bit of a people pleaser like Kylie can be. Though, I do think that she may be a bit too bubbly for Kylie’s character. She’s a very giggly and smiley person, even in more stressful situations. It doesn’t really match the content state of anxiety Kylie seems to be in, but theres nothing saying Trinity couldn’t put on a good act. Another issue is scheduling. Trinity lives a bit far from my house, and her and her family are often busy after school, so it could be hard to plan shooting days. Also, Trinity is allergic to cats, so…

Secondly is Victoria. She fits Kylie’s general aura much better, especially when around people she doesn’t know well. She’s much more reserved and quiet, but not exactly seeking people or friendships out. She also has five cats of her own, and very much adores mine. Victoria has the most free schedule, living the closest to me and having usually nothing to do after school. A major problem though. Victoria is horribly camera shy. The only photos I have of her are ones my mom took, otherwise, she hides from the camera like its going to kill her. She’s still an option, but I worry she might not be up to it when the day comes.

Lastly is Travis, and yes that’s a dude, but its ok because he volunteered and fits the role. Travis actually matches Kylie the most. More reserved, less expressive, attempts to mask, even the same coping mechanism with using music. Travis is also a good candidate because he’s had Media Studies before, both creating a final project and acting in someone else’s. Because of this, he’ll have more knowledge about specifics in terminology and such. He’s in the middle of the other two in terms of easy access.

Before I make a final decision, I want to have little auditions done to see who is actually the most fitting/capable. For that, I’ll be making a mini script, for only a few seconds long of dialogue for them to read from. Then, I’ll decide who’s the best, and final choice.
